Research areas and detailed descriptions
BIOMECHANICAL EVALUATION AND PHYSIOTHERAPY INTERVENTION FOR PEOPLE WITH DIABETES
This line of research aims to investigate different aspects of biomechanics in diabetic patients and diabetic neuropathic, evaluating the alterations in their musculoskeletal and sensory function, locomotor disabilities and their consequences for the daily life and health of these people. It is possible to observe the main daily functional, sensory and motor adaptations of this population. It also aims to prevent the formation of plantar ulcers and musculoskeletal disorders, to design and apply physiotherapeutic interventions to this population.
BIOMECHANICAL STUDIES APPLIED TO TROUBLESHOOTING IN PHYSIOTHERAPY REHABILITATION
This line of research aims to investigate the biomechanical aspects of human movement and posture in normal and pathological conditions that have direct implications for intervention by physical therapy, both in terms of contribution to science and clinical relevance and treatment. In this line, randomized and controlled clinical trials are developed to establish better protocols for physiotherapeutic intervention. It includes studies with different populations: elderly women with knee osteoarthrosis, diabetic neuropaths, recreational runners and dancers.
BIOMECHANICAL STUDY OF THE RACE IN DIFFERENT POPULATIONS AND CONDITIONS OF FOOTWEAR AND FLOORS
The aim of this research line is to investigate the biomechanical behavior of a series of biomechanical variables during the execution of sports movements, in particular the running, in the presence or absence of musculoskeletal changes or of different athletic shoes. This section includes studies on footwear, sports floors and running.
BIOMECHANICAL STUDY OF THE PILATES METHOD
This line of research seeks to describe and understand the movement patterns of the Pilates method and its implications for physical therapy clinics. Among the postural goals of the Pilates Method are correction of postural alignment deviations, strengthening of lower limbs and trunk, and also increased perception of body alignment.
BIOMECHANICAL STUDY OF THE MULTIVETORIAL DISTRIBUTION OF FEMALE PELVIC FLOOR LOADS IN DIFFERENT POPULATIONS
In this line of research a multivector evaluation tool is used to identify the magnitude and relative direction of the pelvic floor muscle contraction, exclusively developed in Labimph. The strength, control and symmetry of pelvic floor muscle contraction are related to the severity of urogynecological and sexual dysfunctions, and these studies will help to better understand the mechanisms of action and pathologies related to urogynecology, will contribute to the advancement of physiotherapeutic intervention in women’s health.
METHODOLOGICAL / INSTRUMENTAL STUDIES IN BIOMECHANICS
The aim of the research line is to investigate the methodological and instrumentation aspects of human movement and posture biomechanics that have direct implications on the validity, reliability and clinical applications of instruments for physiotherapy both in terms of contribution to science and relevance treatment.
